Employment

The project will generate around 150 direct jobs during construction and around 100 indirect supply chain jobs. In addition it will employ approximately 2-3 full time staff during the operation and maintenance phase (expected to be 25-30 years).

The employment benefits extend through the local supply chains to fuel supply, vehicle servicing, uniform suppliers, hotels/motels, B&B’s, cafés, pubs, catering and cleaning companies, tradespersons, tool and equipment suppliers and many other businesses.

The project has substantial environmental benefits including:

  • Ability to generate enough clean renewable energy to power approximately 35,300 New South Wales homes.
  • Additional energy supplies to help meet the demand in New South Wales
  • The land can be rehabilitated to its original condition at the end of the project when all above ground infrastructure is removed.

Community Funds

RES is committed to supporting the host communities where our projects are located. Each project will be offering a community benefit fund to the local community, payable annually for the life of the project.

Tarleigh Park Community Fund – A$20,000 / annum (CPI linked)

This fund will be managed locally and used to support local projects, community groups and organisations over the project lifetime. Input will be sought from the community to inform and shape how the fund could be implemented.

Contributing to Climate Change Policy Targets

State Government:

The New South Wales Renewable Energy Action Plan supports the national target of 20% renewable energy by 2020. Tarleigh Park will contribute to this target if constructed.

Federal Government:

The Federal Government objective is to achieve an additional 33GW of electricity from renewable sources by 2020 under the Renewable Energy Target or RET. Tarleigh Park will contribute to this target if constructed.

International:

The COP21, also known as the 2015 Paris Climate Conference, achieved a legally binding and universal agreement on climate, with the aim of keeping global warming below 2°C, chiefly by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Tarleigh Park will contribute to this target if constructed.

The projected electricity generation for this project:

90MW power rating x 24hrs per day x 365 days per year x 26.5% capacity factor = *208,926 MWh per year
* Generation figures may change subject to final site design and technology selection.

208,926 MWh per year is equivalent to the electricity needs of around 35,300 New South Wales homes (assuming the average household electricity use is 5,920kWh1 per annum).

The carbon dioxide (CO2) being saved by the project:

208,926 MWh x 0.33372 tonnes/MWh = ~69,700 tonnes saved per year (assuming generation would otherwise be made by brown coal with a carbon factor = 0.33372 tonnes per MWh (Source: Department of the Environment National Inventory Report).
